Experience With Journaling

It's incredibly easy to get caught up in academic turmoil as a college student, but if I've learned anything from my time at BU so far it would definitely be just how important self-care can be. As cliche as it sounds, it really is so important to take care of yourself and your own needs before you even think about tackling anything else. Everyone is different and everyone's own specific needs are different so it's important to listen to your body and mind and what they are trying to tell you.

For me, I’ve found so much comfort in taking some space and time for myself a couple times a week to simply journal about anything and everything that pops into my head. Sometimes those journal entries look like venting, sometimes it looks like rambling to no end and sometimes it looks like a gratitude journal, but regardless of the contents of the specific entry I find myself feeling so much more at peace with myself after I walk away from the journal. Something about being able to release all of my thoughts onto a page of paper makes me feel so much lighter and less anxious about anything that might be stressing me out at the moment.

I’ve also found that it's a good way to check in with yourself and express yourself freely with zero inhibitions or fear of being judged which feels so nice after a day of being a bit too trapped in your own head. My best piece of advice for journaling would be to not take yourself so seriously when you’re trying to write, simply go with the flow and put whatever flows into your mind onto the paper. For anyone who has never tried journaling or who might be a bit curious about it, I really encourage you to take the leap of faith and try it out for a bit! I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with yourself.  :)
