Our Initiatives

MHC is dedicated to fighting the stigmas surrounding mental health and promoting change with BU students in mind. The majority of this happens through the initiatives we propose, develop, and work to carry out as a committee. Here is a history of what our committee is currently working on, as well as things we have accomplished in the past. Do you have an idea for an initiative or change you’d like to see on campus? Reach out at any time through our email!

Current Initiatives

  • Trauma-Informed Teaching Initiative

Trauma-informed teaching considers how trauma impacts learning and behavior. From trigger warnings to better language use, trauma-informed structuring can ensure that the classroom is a safe space for all. MHC is currently exploring ways to bring this pedagogy to BU in a way that is effective and easily integrated into classroom syllabi, curriculum, and lectures.

  • CGS Student Acclimation

MHC is currently planning an event to better discuss the college transition for members of CGS. This event will focus on combatting stigma and establishing a mentorship program, as well as a talk about navigating the city for the first time! The talk itself will be hosted by a panel of current and former CGS student MHC staffers.

Past Initiatives

  • In November 2020, MHC developed a proposal to the Boston University Student Government Senate and BU Administration to add wellness days into the 2020-2021 academic year in lieu of the spring recess being canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. MHC not only successfully passed this proposal through Senate (S. Res. 010), but two wellness days were added to the academic year calendar in March of 2021 on which no classes could be held, no classwork could be due, and no exams could be held.
