Ways to Take Care of Your Mental Health and Avoid Burnout

It’s safe to say that we all know how busy our lives can get, and how we can get caught up in everything around us. In times like these it is extremely important for us to take care of our mental health and avoid getting too exhausted. Mental health is one of the most important things that helps us perform better and grow better. This is exactly why we need to prioritize our mental well being before anything else. For obvious reasons, this is easier said than done. Which is why there are some ways you can take care of your mental health and go along with your lives.

The first one is to get enough sleep. We all know that this is especially hard as a college student, but getting enough sleep is proven to improve your mood and health at the same time. As they say, a healthy person is a happy person! However, if getting enough sleep seems impossible for you, then making a schedule is a healthy way to get it. Making a schedule will allow you to plan your day and get good sleep. Don't forget to put in enough breaks through!

The second one is to take time to self- reflect! Self-reflection can be done in a number of ways, like journaling or just simply taking a break and really looking into yourself. How? It’s simple! Everyday, take a moment to breathe. I know we breathe everyday, but we forget to really sit down and breathe. Meditation is a good way of self- reflecting at the start of the day, or at the end to release all your frustrations and tensions. Journaling is another amazing way to self- reflect. Journaling can be done by keeping a journal where you write down things like what you're grateful for, what your goals are, how you felt today, and anything you want to release.

A third one is practicing self care. Practicing self care is extremely important as it gives you time away to focus on yourself. Focusing on yourself is such a necessary thing that I feel most people ignore. It helps you pamper yourself and makes you feel good in the process! Practicing self care can take a number of forms like doing a hobby that you love or pampering yourself. Pampering yourself can be treating yourself to some amazing food, shopping or just simple things such as taking care of your body and skin. I feel like self care is something everyone needs to take time out of their week and do. If none of the above things work for you, you can just do what I do; jam out to my favorite songs and dance away!

The final thing we can all do which doesn't seem like much but goes a long way, is listening to our body and mind. When your body gives you signs of exhaustion and is beginning to shut down, listen to it! Taking breaks is so important, and besides, you work better when your mind and body are healthy. Take a break or a power nap and you’ll feel ten times better than you were before. I know it probably takes time to start listening to your body and mind, but taking small steps is always the way to go!

These listed things will help you guys have a healthy mind and avoid burnout a lot. I hope this helps a lot of you!
